Yangon’s zoo really wants to buy some penguins

Important zoo news.

The Yangon Zoological Gardens wants to get some penguins.

Administrator U Tin Mon Hsan told the Global New Light of Myanmar that the animals will entice visitors, but (oh no!) there seems to be a problem with the, er, delivery.

“Further arrangements are being made to purchase penguins following a deal made between the zoo and an (unspecified) organization that failed to deliver penguins this month as was arranged,” New Light reported, leading many of us to speculate over a brewing contretemps in the world of penguin buying.

But seriously, does Yangon really need penguins? It’s about the farthest away they could get from their artic habitat.

Not long ago, the zoo was having to pass out ice popsicles and give animals ice baths to keep things cool.

Maybe it’s time they held off on bringing in non-tropical species, or at least provide them with some serious air conditioning as a group of penguins in Naypyitaw’s zoo are rumored to have.
