Record-breaking yaba stash found in Mingaladon

A cache of 240 million WY-marked yaba pills was found by police in a home in the Padamyar New Town in Mingaladon Township yesterday at 1am. The cache was valued at K86 billion (US$63 million) and is the largest haul of yaba confiscated in Yangon to date, according to the Yangon Region Police Force.

A police officer who asked to remain unidentified told The Voice: “This is connected to a previous drug case in downtown Yangon, in which five foreigners were arrested. We confiscated the drugs, but the suspects escaped.”

While police were patrolling 3rd Street in the Padamyar New Town, they saw a man flee from a house. When they searched the house, police found the 240 million pills and 685 grams of heroin.

Police detained four Taiwanese men and one man from Hong Kong who were carrying $30 million worth or crystal meth on November 18 in Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township.

On July 26, 2015, police confiscated 26 million WY pills from an ownerless truck in Mingaladon Township.
