Over 90? Now YOU can apply to receive $12 per year in social security support

The Mandalay Region Social Security Department has announced that people over the age of 90 can apply to receive a whopping K15,000 (US$11.60) per year in financial support from the government under a new plan, reported The Voice.

Deputy department director Daw Phyu Phyu Khine said: “Elderly people are one of the 10 categories of people under the care of the Social Security Department. That’s why the plan has been implemented.”

This financial support plan began in the 2015-16 fiscal year. During the 2016-17 fiscal year, 3,389 people between the ages of 90 and 100 received financial support of K15,000 per year. A total of 216 people above the age of 100 received K20,000 that year.

Applicants to the government’s financial support plan must produce a copy of their ID card and household registration list, along with letter of recommendation from their township administrator. They can apply at their local general administration office, which will forward the application to the Social Security Department.
