Farmer finds bodies of sons killed in Kachin State landmine blast

Two brothers died in a landmine blast while they worked on their farm in Mohnyin, Kachin State, over the weekend.

Their father, U Htay, heard the explosion and found the bodies of his sons – 44-year-old Myint Oo and Myo Win, 34.

According to the Global New Light of Myanmar, U Htay had discovered the device while trimming plants earlier in the afternoon, and warned his sons.

Police are investigating.

Decades of conflict have left Myanmar littered with landmines and unexploded ordnance, particularly in  Kayah, Kayin, Shan and Kachin states, and Bago region.

Due to ongoing clashes between ethnic armies and the military, there has been little traction on large-scale efforts to clear them.
