IN PICTURES: Myanmar’s cartoonists draw for peace

Dozens of Myanmar’s best cartoonists came out to Mahabandoolah Park on Sunday to wrap up an exhibition showcasing works supporting the country’s peace process.

The exhibition, which ran from August 12-14 (Sunday), was meant to advocate for the 21st Century Panglong Conference, which is being held in Naypyitaw on August 31.

During the conference, Aung San Suu Kyi hopes to make ground on peace issues with several ethnic groups, issues that have dogged the country since her father’s first Panglong conference in 1947.

Cartoonist Maung Maung Aung, the organiser of this event, explained that “cartoonists also want peace like [other] people.”

“So, we are implementing this event in order to welcome peace for people. Some were trying to stop the civil war since a long time ago. So, we hope for peace and are raising awareness about it by making this event.”

The cartoons, which could be bought, attracted a decent crowd.

Attendees danced to music and some even took selfies in front of the cartoons. Hey, why not?
