Rangoon Tea House to expand onto street level

It’s safe to say that, since opening in downtown Yangon in late 2014, Rangoon Tea House has been ragingly popular.

The restaurant, which serves up Myanmar classics with a modern twist in a restored colonial building, is rarely empty.

It’s no wonder then, to hear that the management team is planning an expansion.

They intend to open a streetside dining space on the ground level on Pansodan Street within the next few months, the Myanmar Times reports.

The addition would more than double the current capacity – between 65 and 70 people – to up to 150.

What the management couldn’t confirm, however, was whether the original restaurant would be closed during the renovations. Eep.

In an email, manager Isabella Sway-Tin told Coconuts Yangon: “As for the upstairs, we can’t say either but what we can say is that the idea behind expanding is in order to enhance the experience for customers, especially in terms of ambiance, quality and comfort.

“For us, we want Rangoon Tea House to become a household name within the region, not only Myanmar, both in terms of quality of food and progressive Myanmar design.”

Don’t worry, fans of the teahouse, we’ll have more details for you soon.
