The 88 Generation Memorial Hall in Thingangyun township, which opened almost a year ago, could be seeing more official recognition after a visit from Minister of Culture Thura Aung Ko on July 20, according to reports in local media.
“I went to the temporary museum to negotiate future tasks. A proposal will be submitted to Parliament then the ministry to provide assistance to exhibit documents and objects,” he was quoted as saying in Eleven. “The ministry will arrange the location of the museum and its construction.”
The memorial hall is located at the 88 Generation office in Thingangyun and was opened last year on the 27th anniversary of the August 8, 1988 uprising against the military government that pushed Aung San Suu Kyi to prominence.
It wasn’t immediately clear where the location of the new museum would be, or how soon the project would happen.
