Storms on the way this weekend, warns forecaster

Thunderstorms bringing heavy rain and lightning will roll across most of Myanmar over the weekend, the country’s leading forecaster has warned.

Dr Htun Lwin, the former director of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, told Mizzima News that the north would be most affected, especially Kachin State and Sagaing Region.

“I guess this will happen in more than half of Myanmar,” he said. “The whole upper region will be affected, leaving only the lower part. Kachin State and Sagaing Region will be worst affected.”

Myanmar is transitioning from the hot, dry season into the monsoon.

Rains have already hit parts of the country this week, with parts of Sagaing Region and Pyin Oo Lwin, in Mandalay Region, experiencing heavy showers and lightning yesterday.
