If the main action was in the cities during last week’s water-splashing Thingyan New Year celebrations, the coast was a strong contender for second place.

Chaung Tha, a five-hour drive from Yangon, in the Irrawaddy Delta, was packed with holidaymakers relaxing and partying on the beach.
