Tiger in Myanmar killed after attacking villagers

A tiger in Myanmar’s Karen State was shot to death after attempting to maul villagers while they were going out to fish.

Graphic photos of the carcass and the victims’ injuries circulated on social media on Thursday. In one, a man poses with the dead tiger while showing its teeth to a crowd. A man wearing an ammunition belt of shotgun bullets stands off to the side.

The attack happened around 4am, according to state-backed Myawaddy News. Two men were injured and sent to the hospital. The Border Guard Force captured and killed the animal several hours later in cooperation with local residents, according one of those involved who commented on a Facebook thread.

Myanmar has a larger tiger population than many Southeast Asian countries but the animals are threatened by the wildlife trade.
