It’s been a long time coming, but the much-heralded tram is here.
On Sunday the tram line that carried passengers along Strand Road up until WWII was brought back into action.
The launch was brought about by a $3 million deal between Myanma Railways and the Japan-based West Corporation.
The service first started in 1904 but stopped during the war.
The new, electrified tram runs six times a day, from 8am onwards, according to the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar, charging K100 per passenger.
The line, which starts at Wardan Jetty and ends at Linsadaung, is currently 3.5 miles long but will grow to 7 miles total.
