Myanmar medics operate by light of smartphones

 When in Myanmar, it helps to be prepared for a power outage.
 
When the notoriously unreliable electricity supply failed at Central Women Hospital in Mandalay recently, a group of doctors seemingly carried on an operation using the light of their smartphones.
 
An image appearing to show the incident — which could not be immediately verified — was posted to Facebook yesterday by a user named Kaung Htet Lin, whose profile says he works at the hospital, who said he was “feeling disappointed”.
 
“It’s really happening, not from 1990s – it’s happening now in 2015,” he wrote.
 
The picture has been shared thousands of times on Facebook, with users remarking on the fact that at least one of the doctors is using an iPhone – relatively rare in Myanmar.
 
 “Sell your iPhone and buy a generator,” advised Pyae Phyo Aung.
