Rangoon Tea House to celebrate first birthday with freebies

Rangoon Tea House, the lapae yea zein on Pansodan Street loved (and hated on) for its upmarket twist on traditional Myanmar cooking, turns one on Saturday.

To celebrate, the restaurant is giving away free tea all day, according to a post on their Facebook page. That’s from 8am until 10pm.

It’s a solid PR move from RTH, which was the target of a hate-piece published in the Guardian earlier this month calling them out as “insidious culinary neocolonialism at work.”

Their menu features traditional Myanmar fare – salads, samosas, curries, Mohingya – with a considerably higher price tag.

Even the most fervently anti-neocolonialist can’t resist a freebie, we suspect.
