Nearly 500 schools destroyed by flooding

New figures from the government show just how much will need to be done to rebuild after flood waters have receded.

The second situation report prepared by the National Natural Disaster Management Committee shows the extent to which infrastructure has been damaged.

In all, the report says, 766 bridges, 760 road sections, 242 health facilities and 466 schools have been “destroyed.”

The death toll has also risen to 110, according to the government.

The days of getting around in a boat and seeking higher ground may be coming to an end, but the weeks of restoring normal life to communities is only beginning.
