Air Bagan suspends service

One of Myanmar’s major airlines, Air Bagan, has suspended service until October due to “regular maintenance”.

Htoo Thet Htwe, the company’s managing director, told the Irrawaddy that both domestic and international flights were stopped.

The airline, owned by tycoon Tay Za, has a code share agreement with Asian Wings, which was forced to deny rumours circulated online over the weekend that it had also stopped service due to alleged links between Tay Za and parliamentary speaker Shwe Mann.

The politician was ousted from his position as chairman of the ruling USDP last week.

“I’ve received many calls from outside asking if our airline has stopped, and I can say it is not true,” said Asian Wings’ executive director Lwin Moe.
