A Myanmar cartoonist has made the most heart-melting animation about education

If you’ve got three minutes today, you could do worse than watch this award-winning short animation by Myanmar cartoonist Nyan Kyal Say.

‘I Wanna Go to School’ follows a brother and sister who dream of studying but are thwarted at every turn by the invisible hand of fate.

It literally scoops them up and takes them to work, in teashops, the military and mines – a sad reality for many in a country where more than a third of children work.

The film won the March 13 Award, which celebrates Myanmar Human Rights Day, at the Human Rights Human Dignity International Film Festival last week.
